She attended Sinhagad college, Pune. Her father and uncle are associated with Gujrati theater. She began her acting career with TV serial Kasam Seh at age 17. She became the surprise winner of Jhalak Dikhla Ja 2 after returning back to the show as a wild card entry.

Kimi Katkar was born on 11th December 1965. Kimi Katkar married Shantanu Sheorey who is an advertisement film producer and a commercial photographer. This couple has one son by name Siddharth. She is residing in Pune along with her husband and son. Recently this actress photo is seen with her son in the internet.
Profession
Kimi Katkar made her debut to Bollywood industry through the film Patthar Dil in 1984 as a supporting actor. In the same year she acted in a lead role in the movie Tarzan (The English title of the movie is Adventures of Tarzan). In this movie she starred opposite to Hemant Birje. The role in this movie considered as one of Katkar’s popular roles. After the success of this movie she continued to act in several movies in the late 1980s. She gave successful movies like Zulm Ki Hukumat, Sherdil, Jaisi Karni Vaisi Bharni, Gair Kanoon, Dariya Dil, Mera Lahoo, mard Ki Zubaan and Vardi. Dariya Dil was released in the year 1988, starring Govinda and Kimi Katkar. This film has gained interest because of the songs in the movie. In one song Govinda dressed as Superman and Kimi Katkar dressed as a Spiderwomen and this song became huge successful, this song became the widely seen song in YouTube with 10 million views. This movie was commercially successful.
Her breakthrough came through the movie Hum in 1991, in this movie she played opposite to legendary superstar Amitabh Bachchan. In this movie her role name was Jumma. The song Jumma Chumma De in this movie was very popular sung by Kavita Krishnamurthy and Sudesh Bhonsle, became huge hit and bought stardom to Kimi. After this movie she herself restricted to limited movies. After that she acted in song and dance routine in Govinda’s movies.
Kimi Katkar’s last movie was Humlaa in 1992. In the same year she rejected a movie offer from Yash Chopra’s Parampara, later she was replaced by Ramya. Roshan also wanted to cast her in the movie King Uncle opposite to Amitabh Bachchan. Later Anu replaced Kimi Katkar in this movie and Jackie Shroff replaced Amitabh Bachchan role.
She retired from Hindi movies after her marriage and before leaving she made allegations like she will never return to this industry again as there is more dissatisfaction, exploitation, exhaustion and alienation in this industry. She also told that she was less valued than male actors in this male dominating society.
